Medical Assistant (Gap Year Friendly – Pre-Med, Pre-PA, Pre-Nursing)
MI Skin Center – Northville, MI
Full-Time | Flexible for Students
Launch Your Clinical Career in a Practice That Actually Invests in Your Growth
Are you a pre-med, pre-PA, or pre-nursing student looking for real, hands-on clinical experience before graduate school? Do you want a role where you’re trusted with meaningful responsibilities, trained directly by physicians, and exposed to dermatology, surgery, cosmetics, and clinical research? Or maybe you're just someone who loves to learn.
At MI Skin Center, you’ll work side-by-side with board-certified dermatologists, APPs, and research staff in a fast-paced, supportive environment. Many of our previous Medical Assistants have successfully gone on to medical school, PA school, nursing programs, and clinical research roles, often with strong letters of recommendation from our team.
This is not a “paper-pushing” medical assistant job—this is a clinical immersion.
What You'll Do: (Hands-On Experience You Can Actually Talk About in Interviews):
- Assist providers during medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology procedures, including biopsies, excisions, and wound care.
- Prepare and maintain exam rooms to ensure smooth clinical flow.
- Take patient histories and input documentation into the EMR.
- Participate in surgical setup, specimen collection, labeling, and lab coordination.
- Educate patients on treatment plans, wound care, and medication use.
- Support cosmetic dermatology services and observe advanced procedures (lasers, microneedling, etc.).
- Learn clinical workflow, triage, and patient communication skills.
- Collaborate closely with physicians, PAs, nurses, and research staff.
You will gain exposure to medical dermatology, surgical dermatology, cosmetics, and clinical research—ideal for students pursuing competitive healthcare programs.
Who We're Looking For:
- Pre-Med, Pre-PA, Pre-Nursing, or other pre-health students (current or recently graduated).
- Highly motivated, mature, and eager to learn.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Dependable, punctual, and professional.
- Comfortable in a fast-paced clinical setting.
- Previous MA or clinical experience is helpful but not required—we will train the right candidate.
Schedule & Compensation:
- Pay: Starting at $14.50+ per hour (based on experience).
- Hours: 4 full days per week minimum. Shifts are approximately 8-10 hours each day.
- Ideal for gap-year candidates who can commit to 12–24 months or more.
- Flexible scheduling available to support academic needs. Availability required: Tuesdays and 1-2 Saturdays per month.
Why This Role Is Perfect for Pre-Health Students:
- Direct shadowing exposure to board-certified dermatologists and experienced PAs.
- Letters of recommendation for strong performers.
- Opportunity to assist in medical, surgical, cosmetic, and research procedures.
- Robust clinical training and mentorship.
- Competitive pay with opportunities for increased responsibility.
- Supportive, team-oriented environment.
- Employee discounts on cosmetic treatments.
